The forecourt of the Cultural Centre welcomes visitors with a statue of Ilektra Apostolou herself — the resistance fighter whose name the building honours, and whose memory it keeps alive alongside all those who fought in the National Resistance. Arrested by the occupying forces, she was tortured and executed on 26 July 1944. The very ground on which the Centre stands was once her home, later donated to the Municipality and transformed into a place of culture.
