Municipal Library

The Municipal Library of Heraklion, Attica has served as a centre of culture, knowledge, and education since its establishment in 1964. Through a continuous course of growth and development, it has evolved into a modern and well-organised library operating in accordance with international library standards, with an adult Reading Room (20 seats) and a dedicated Children’s Section (with an 8-seat reading room). Its collection comprises more than 31,286 volumes, including rare and valuable editions, and provides open access across a wide range of academic, literary, and general-interest disciplines. In addition, the library has 10 scientific journals and more than 50 book titles in Braille for people with visual impairments. The entire collection is available for lending, with the exception of reference materials (encyclopaedias, dictionaries), rare editions, and periodicals, which are reserved for on-site study and consultation within the Reading Room. The collection is enriched through selective purchases and through donations from readers and residents, organisations, foundations, publishing houses, and other libraries. Today the Libray has 12,200 members while new ones enrol daily.
